MEMBER SHIRTS

The jog-a-thon is officially over, and the opportunity to earn a free shirt has passed.

Students must have a navy blue shirt for their travel uniform. There are member shirts left over which may be purchased for $15.  Check must be made out to BSRIMA.

HOME FOOTBALL GAME
Friday, September 9

LOCATION:  RCC Stadium (look for the big hole in the ground with grass in it (its the graduation stadium)

REPORT: 5:30pm to Lot "Y" (Next to the stadium)

WEAR: BSR member shirt, blue jeans with a belt (no sagging), walking shoes for marching (Auxiliary may be in another color for the performance - contact Mrs. Schive)

BRING:  Water bottle, music, instrument (if not on the trailer)

PICK UP:  9:30 pm - CHOOSE A MEETING PLACE WITH YOUR CHILD prior to the game

WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS
September 4-10

TUESDAY

  • BSR Rehearsal 3-5

WEDNESDAY

  • BSR Rehearsal 3-5 (NOTE: Weather reports indicate RUSD may not allow the BSR or athletics to practice on this day due to high temperatures. Students will know if rehearsal has been cancelled by 2:30 pm. Band members will be excused at 3:00pm after attendance is taken, but the auxiliary will practice in a cooler space.

THURSDAY

  • BSR Rehearsal 6-9

FRIDAY

  • Home football game at RCC Stadium. Students report to lot "Y" at 5:30pm.
  • Concessions* are run by BSRIMA parents at the football game.

SATURDAY

  • Recycle Drive donations* 8-11am (flute section works*)
  • BSR Car Wash* 8-11am in the front and back parking lots.

* This weekend presents a terrific opportunity for students and parents to earn VOLUNTEER HOURS. Items marked "*" have volunteer hours assigned to them.

Saturday, August 27

7:00 am  Report (bright and early!)
7:15         Depart for SCSBOA Conference
9:30         Warm up with Brian Balmages
10:00      Demonstration Clinic
11:00      Sight Reading Clinic
12:00      Lunch (provided by SCSBOA)
1:00        Depart for North HS
1:45        Arrive North HS

WEAR:

  • Nice pants/clothes
  • Shoes (no flip flops!, etc!)
  • Blue BSR shirt from 2010 0r 2011
  • Do not wear anything "blingy", obnoxious hats, etc.

BRING: 

  • 15 stands
  • Bass Drum
  • Snare Drum
  • Timpani
  • Bells
  • Xylophone

OTHER:

  • Take care of your reed problems today (Friday) (Bassoons... this means YOU)
  • Make sure instruments are in good working order
  • Lets represent North HS well!

BAND CAMP WEEK 2
August 22-25

The first week of band camp was amazing!  The students have tremendous energy, and they are learning fast.

TUESDAY SCHEDULE

Tuesday's schedule is different. Band camp begins as usual at 8:00 am.  At 3:00 pm, freshmen are involved in the S.T.A.R.T. program orientation.  After that, all students (including freshmen) have a short performance at 5:00 pm to kick off the evening S.T.A.R.T. program.  Students are finished at 5:30 pm.

WEDNESDAY

The BSR is scheduled for time in the pool. Come prepared to swim for the section competitions!  A lifeguard will be present.

THURSDAY

Camp hours on Thursday are 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Lunch is not served on this day.  Report time for the Pot Luck is at 5:30 pm. Performance time 6:00 pm.

BAND CAMP STARTS
Monday, August 15

The 47th edition of the North HS Band (Riverside's Finest and the Blue Star Regiment) kicks off Monday, August 15! 

  • Band camp takes place at North HS
  • Check in opens at 7:45 (All students must verify their information and provide proof of Tdap compliance - information below)
  • Introductions and roll call in the Little Theater after check in is complete
  • Bring lunch unless you have purchased a BSR Lunch Card (information below)
  • Dress in cool clothing
  • Wear shoes
  • Bring water
  • Bring your instrument
  • Wear a hat

Band camp lunch cards are available online at this link:

Students are not allowed to leave campus for lunch during band camp. BSR members have the option of purchasing a lunch card for food provided by the BSRIMA, or members may bring their own food each day.

CHECKING OUT INSTRUMENTS

Students may check out instruments on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, July 6 - 5pm
  • Wednesday, July 20 - 5pm
  • Monday, August 15 (first day of band camp) at 1pm

A completed check out form and a parent's signature is required to take an instrument home.

Tdap IMMUNIZATION REQUIRED

All BSR members entering grades 9-12 this fall MUST provide proof that they have had a Tdap booster shot. The immunization record is required to check in on the first day of band camp. Students who do not have written proof of the Tdap booster immunization will not be permitted to attend school this fall.

Tdap protects against three potentially-dangerous diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough. Students can get this immunization at their healthcare provider.

BAND CAMP AUGUST 2011

Who: Blue Star Regiment
Dates:  August 15-25
Time: 8am - 4pm daily
Place: North HS

All members of the Blue Star Regiment attend band camp in August. Students earn their marching position during the first three days (marching or alternate), and then start learning the competition show.  Our annual band camp sets the Blue Star Regiment up for a successful season.

BAND CAMP - 10 THINGS TO BRING

Below is a list of what you need for band camp.

1.  Hat

Your hat needs to shade your face from the sun

2.  Cool clothing

Wear shorts to keep cool as you learn to march

3.  Sunscreen

It is important that you do not get a sunburn

4.  Walking Shoes

Wear shoes that fit your feet well - do not wear flip flops as you cannot march in them

5.  Water Bottle

To have cold water, freeze the water bottle and let it melt through the morning

6.  Towel

You need this in the morning when we are stretching - put your name on it

7.  Instrument

We march with the instruments in the morning and play in the afternoon

8.  Music

Bring all of your music every day.  We will give you the music you need, but we do not have an endless supply

9.  Lunch

Students are not allowed to leave campus during lunch, so plan ahead
Bring a lunch every day or purchase a BAND CAMP LUNCH CARD from the boosters - they will prepare lunch for those who have the cards

10. Tdap

Certificate of Tdap immunization is required before a student may participate

 

MUSIC REHEARSALS - July 6 & 20

Our first music rehearsal and barbecue is planned Wednesday, July 6, 5-8 pm.  Come have some food, meet the members of your section, and sight read the pregame music with the band!

The second rehearsal is scheduled for July 20.

SUMMER REHEARSAL SCHEDULES

The auxiliary members already have their rehearsal calendar, and are meeting every Wednesday with Mrs. Schive. 

The entire BSR is welcome on Wednesdays, July 6 and 20, for BBQ and swimming after sight reading rehearsals of the new show.

As soon as the master calendar is ready, the completed summer and fall calendar will be posted and announced here.
